That Tanmoy Bhattacharya has the email addresses tb3@soas.ac.uk, tanmoy@linguistics.du.ac.in, uclytbh@ucl.ac.uk, t.bhattacharya@ucl.ac.uk, bhattach@rz.uni-leipzig.de, bhamoy@hotmail.com, and bhattach2000@yahoo.co.uk is a linguist who has something to do with SALON, was at University College in London, then in Leipzig, and is now back at Delhi University (tanmoy@du.ac.in). He also used to write poetry, but none of his webpages at UCL work any more. Though I too am a Bengali who spent some time of my childhood in southern New Delhi and graduated from high scool at roughly the same time, the characters stated above ought to distinguish him from me very easily. And, here is a photo of me in case you meet me on the street. Also, my last name arose out of an academic/occupational title (see here), so all the various people mentioned on this page need not be related by recent genealogical ties.
The Kolkata telephone directory lists a number of Tanmoy Bhattacharya's: one each at Baranagar-700036, Sahapur-700038, Motijheel-700074, Santoshpur-700075, Bagha Jatin-700086, Lake Town-700089, Nawapara-700090, Ghola Bazar-700111, Khardah-700117, Noapara-700125, Madhyamgram-700129, Dakshin Jagatdal-700151, Tribeni-712503, and Kankinara-743126. In addition, there is a Tanmoy Sankar Bhattacharya (or Bhattacharyya) at Jadavpur-700032; one Tanmay Bhattacharya each at Hoogly-712103 and Panchpota-700152; one Tonmoy Bhattacharya at Lake Gardens-700045; one Tanmoy Bhattacharyya at Bhatpara-743123 (Bhattacharyay in the directory probably a mistake; may be this, at 22°52'25"N 88°24'29"E); one Tanmay Bhattacharyya at Santragachi-711104, one Tanmoy Bhattacharjee each at Barisha-700008, Baranagar-700036, Sodepur-700110 (may also spell his name Bhattacharyya?), Sapuipara-711227, and Bhadreswar-712124; one Tanmay Bhattacharjee each at Ballygunge-700019, Nawapara-700090, and Danesh SK lane-711109; one Tonmoy Bhattacharjee at Bansdroni-700070; and one Tanmoy Bhattacherjee each at Lansdowne-700029 and Barrackpur-700120. As you must have guessed, all of these are various transliterations of one and the same name. There is also a feminine form of the name listed: a Tanmayee Bhattacharjee lives at Rabindra Nagar-700065. A Tanmoy Bhattacharya (or Bhattacharyya) lives in Dewanji Bagan (22°52'45"N 88°23'17"E near Chandannagore), and one in Netaji Colony in Baranagore (22°38'9"N 88°22'59"E), may be one of the two above in the telephone directory. One of these Tanmoy Bhattacharya's probably has the email "tanmoybhat@hotmail.com.
Skype finds Many Tanmoy Bhattacharyas: one with username tanmoy.bhattacharya in India, tanmoy_bhattacharya in Singapore, a tanmoybhattacharya, a tan.tex, tanmoy1981, and tanmoy290986 in Kolkata, India, a tanmoy.bhat, a tanmoy.bhattacharya1 in Krishnagar, India, a dr.tanmoy.bhattacharya in Delhi, India, and a drtanmoybhattacharya in New Delhi, India in addition to me tanmoy87544, Los Alamos, New Mexico, USA. There are also Tanmay Bhattacharyas: a tanmay.bhattacharya, tanmoy_bhattacharya, and tanmay_zed in Kolkata, India, and a kismat_...connection in Howrah, India. There are also Tonmoy Bhattacharya: a tonmoy.bhattacharya in Manila, Phillipines, a tonmoy_bhattacharya in India, and a tonmoybhattacharya in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. There is also a tonmoy.bhattacharjee, and a Tanmay Bhattacharjee with username tanmay042004 in Uluberia, West Bengal, India, and many Tanmoy Bhattacharjees: a tanmoy.bhattacharjee, tanmoy_bhattacharjee, tanmoy.bhattacharjee1, and tanmoy2k9 in Kolkata, India, a senseitanmoybhattacharjee in Bongaon, India, a tanmoy_the_champ in Agartala, India, a tanmoy.b in Asansol, USA, in addition to a tanmoy.b1, a tanmoybhattacharjee, and a tanmoy.bhattacharjee.asansol. There is also a Tonmay.Bhattacharjee in Sylhet, Bangladesh and a Tanmoy Bhattacharya who is the deputy director of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical college and Hospital.
There is also a graduate student at Gatton college, Univerity of Kentucky named Tanmoy Bhattacharya with the email addresses bhat0@pop.uky.edu and tanmoyb@excite.com. who, since he did his bachelors at Eastern Kentucky University, may be the same as the person listed in Richmond, and a visiting instructor (tanmoy.bhattacharya@eku.edu) in the businness faculty at the Eastern Kentucky University and visiting professor of business and economics at Baker University. There is a Tanmoy Bhattacharya who is a Programmer Analyst at Infosys Tech Ltd and is in the San Francisco Bay Area; one who is at PCS Technology in Mumbai (earlier at CMS computers and Network solutions in Delhi), one who is an ‘Autodesk Maya Max Teacher’ from Kolkata, India, one who is a senior executive administrator at New Horizons Ltd, Kolkata, one who is a head of business development at KEC International Ltd, one who was at IIT, Bombay and was a coauthor on a paper on spirit possession presented at Bremen in July 2008, one in Hyderabad who was a coauthor on a paper on genetics of Siddis, and one in Mangalore who was a coauthor on a population genetics poster at the 34th Annual Conference of the Indian Society for Human Genetics (the last two may be the same). There is one who participated in the US racquetball tournament in fall/winter 2007. The LinkedIn directory of professionals lists the Tanmoy Bhattacharyas in Allahabad (as being in Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing), the programmer/analyst at Infosys (as being in the Computer Software profession), and ones in Mumbai Area (EUS Lead at IBM), Nagpur area (at Axa Business Services, lived in the Shahajanpur area?, and in the insurance business), two in the New Delhi Area (related to RPG Ltd.) and two others. It also has Tanmay Bhattacharya's in India, at Toyota Kirlosakar in Kolkata area, a network administrator in Kolkata area, a senior lecturer in Kalyani, a Parking manager at PCTL in Kolkata area, and a serior engineer in Ericsson at Gurgaon. A Tanmoy Bhattacharya is in TN. Consultancy, and one, born in 1981 to a family that came from Basirhat, WB (native place Chirimiri; born in Naihati), lives in Surguja in Chhattisgarh. Yasni has a Tanmoy Bhattacharya. Myspace has a musician from Calcutta called Tanmoy Bhattacharya who was born around 1974, and may be the same as the guitarist for the Mumbai based band Something Relevant. There is also a Tanmoy Bhattacharya who grew up in Hyderabad, Nagpur, and Mumbai; who lived in Dhanbad, Tatanagar, Bangkok, Dubai, Addis Ababa, Zurich, Abu Dhabi, and Mombasa; attended Don Bosco, HPS, and SVN; who worked in Siemens, KEC International, and Reliance; and who is currently in project management at New Delhi. In addition, the email address tanmoy.bhattacharya@hammar.pp.se belongs to a Tanmoy Bhattacharya listed as being in Sweden, and tanmoybhatt@yahoo.com to one listed in Cincinnati, Ohio; I do not know who bhattacharyatanmoy@hotmail.com or tanmoy.bhattacharya@p999.f10.n2235.z1.fidonet.org belongs to. I also found a Tanmoy Bhattacharya who probably appeared for JECA in 2009, a student (in 2010) of MAAC Girish Park, Kolkata who has produced movies on youtube and is on twitter as @tanzb2, one who wanted to purchase residential property in Kolkata in Feb 2010, one (tanbhat@gmail.com) in Delhi, one who is a student in Regional Enineering College in Tiruchirapalli, one btanmoy@cedt.iisc.ernet.in at CEDT, IISC, Bangalore and may be the same as the one now at IIT, Kharagpur, one who plays bridge in Bihar, one who completed his B. Com. from the University of Calcutta in 2001 (thanks, Ruchira Bhattacharyya), one with email address tanmoyalld@rediffmail.com living in Allahabad and born in Dhaka in 1946 (thanks, Samiran Ganguly), one (t_bhatt123@rediffmail.com) computer scientist from Barasat, and one with the email address tanduniya@gmail.com. There is also a Tanmoy Tapas Bhattacharyya who appears in the convocation list for the science faculty (BSc) in 2004 from the University of Pune, a Tanmoy Bhattacharjee in the political science department of the Assam University at Silchar, the last name is the same, it is just spelt differently; a political leader Tanmoy Bhattacharya in Democratic Youth Federation of India, the student wing of the Communist Party of India (Marxist); a Tanmoy Bhattacharya who retired as a teacher in West Bengal and is now settled in Delhi; one who appears in a genealogy; one who is a paragliding instructor; one who is an administrator for the Julien Day group of schools; another who ranked 79th in the Joint Entrance Examination for admission to BAMS (Ayurvedacharyya), BHMS (Homeopathy), BSc (Physiotherapy) and BUMS (Unani) held by West Bengal Board of Examinations, JEXAB-Howrah in 2004; one (may be the same) who was registered for some conference at the Indian Association of Physiotherapists; one who got appointed as a Statistical Investigator grade IV in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation of the Central Government of India; another whose name appears in a list in a memorandum of the Central Government of India; one who is the executive director of M/s Airtek Paragliding Club in Indore; a Tanmoy Bhattacharjee (btanmoy@yahoo.com) in Bombay, a stockbroker by profession; another (tanmoy_2002@yahoo.co.uk) an MCA student in Durgapur; one (manku_3@yahoo.co.in) programmer from Gobardanga; one from Aurangabad; one hails from Dhanbad, and one with email address tanmoybhattacharjee@gmail.com. The email addresses tan_17bhat@yahoo.com and tanmay@hijli.iitkgp.ernet.in belong to people named Tanmay Bhattacharya (that is a variant English transliteration), tbhattacharya@yahoo.co.uk to a Tanmoy Bhattacharyya (another one) and tanmoy_bhat@yahoo.com to Tanmoy Bhattacharya, all in India. There is a Tanmay Bhattacharya from Jamshedpur. The email caltigermum@yahoo.com belongs to a Tanmyo Bhattacharya from India which is an odd name if not a misspelling. There is also a Prof. Tanmay Bhattacharya in the zoology department in the Vidyasagar university in Midnapore (who may be the same as Prof. Tanmoy Bhattacharya who in 2005 is the director of their directorate of distance education), and one working at the lawyers chambers in Delhi. There is a Tanmay Bhattacharjee, probably in Guwahati, who wrote an introduction to a sociological collection studying the karbi/mikir hill tribe, another a class X (in 2011) student in Shrimala Shankar Academy there, and one who is the contact person for Krishi Rasayan Group in Guwahati. A Tanmoy Bhattacharyya lives in Howrah and one is a M.Sc./Ph.D. student at Institute of Molecular Genetics in Prague, and a Tonmoy Bhattacharya is an editor of a book on the history of the Arab race. I also saw a Tanmoy Bhattacharya asking about WAP, one with email address tanmoybhattacharya@yahoo.co.in who passed 10+2 probably around 2001, one (tan_bhat@yahoo.com) who is a programmer at Datamation Pvt. Limited, one who reads the newspaper Daily Telegraph, and a sweet seller in Mainaguri near Jalpaiguri who named sweets after Mamata. Orkut has members with names Tanmoy Bhattacharyya from Ranchi and Barasat, and a Tanmoy Bhattacharjee from Bangalore. There is a Tanmoy Bhattacharya from the class of 1947 of the Galileo High School of San Francisco , tanmoy_bhattacharjee, bhattacharjee_tanmoy, tonmoy_bhattacharjee, bhattacharjee_tanmay, tonmoy_bhattacharya, tanmay_bhattacharya, bhattacharya_tanmay, tanmoy_bhattacharya, tanmoy.bhattacharya, and bhattacharya_tanmoy at yahoo are also taken. And a commercial site trying to entice me claimed that there are many Tanmoy Bhattacharya's in the US: a 21 year old in CA, 26 yr old in FL, 27 yr old in WV, 31 yr old in TX, 32 yr olds in NY and LA, 34 yr old in CA, 36 yr old in TN, 43 yr old in MI, 46 yr old in TN, and a 54 yr old in KS, though I suspect they just searched for T Bhattacharya. Some of these people may be identical (people do move, and somtetimes names are misspelt), but I do not know. Facebook lists 8 Tanmoy Bhattacharya's (3 without photo or friends) in addition to me, the Unversity of Delhi one, Samiran's friend, the one from TCS, and the one from Kentucky university, and one from(?) Ukraine; one of them calls himself papairockz; 3 Tonmoy Bhattacharya's (one from SUNY Buffalo and now in Philippines and one from Swiburne 2007); one Tanmay Bhattacharjya from India; one Tanmay Bhattacharya; 6 Tanmoy Bhattacharyya's (one without photo or friends; one from the Czech republic); 1 Tanmay Bhattacharjee from Youngstown, OH; 4 Tanmoy Bhattacharjee's (1 without photo or friends, 1 from India, 1 from Dhaka who is a friend of a friend); and 1 Tonmay Bhattacharjee. Unfortunately, that address went belly-up, so I have to get another forwarding address now!
My father tells me he has seen the name in the credits after some Indian TV program, but could not remember any other detail. Except for a brief mention on All India Radio that I heard in my childhood, a Tanmoy Bhattacharjee who practices Goshin Ryu Karate in Calcutta and is a member of Hapkidonet, one who made a trek, one posted to a cricket board, and one whose profile appears on MySQL Forums: Jobs, one who was a consultant for Banking Products Division of i-flex solutions and wrote an article, may be another who is also a consultant in the computer software industry. and one arrested for driving a bus recklessly and killing a woman, a Tanmoy Bhttacharya who posted appeciatively of a customer service, one who participated in a quizzing blog, I know of no other Tanmoy Bhattacharya's.
